Anti-drug project to be launched in Nelson Mandela Bay this weekend

Port Elizabeth area and the Northern Areas in particular are faced with serious challenges when it comes to drug and alcohol abuse, gangsterism, prostitution and child trafficking.

Many families and victims feel hopeless who are caught up in one of these situations. Because of their sense of hopelessness they tend to resort to behavior that is destructive to themselves and the community at large. A new focus needs to be given to try and win back the hearts and minds of these sons and daughters of the city that are caught in the grip of these challenges.

Teen Challenge is an organization doing amazing work in Cape Town. They have major success in how they managed to turnaround the lives of many former addicts, gangsters and prostitutes, with the assistance of their programme. These are people from all walks of life, classes and race. More surprising were the many from the Eastern Cape who were successfully completed this programme but had to go to Cape Town to get rehabilitation.

Our Metro and Province is in dire need of such a programme to help us deal with these challenges that are affecting all communities in this Province.

Teen challenge wants to come to Port Elizabeth and work with the sons and daughters of our city who are confronted with these challenges. They have especially been successful with working with persons addicted to the drug Tik.

Their programme will complement the existing programs that are running in the metro and an invitation is extended to all of the Metro to form part of the programme.

Teen Challenge will be in Port Elizabeth from the 20 May - 23 May and will be launched on Sunday afternoon at 3pm at the Chatty community centre. They will be working in six schools across the Metro. The evenings of the 21 - 23 May, they will be working from the Ebernezer tent in Jacksonville from 6pm in the evening.
If the programme allows they are willing to do talks and counseling.
