Another two years - at least - of loadshedding

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has apologised to the public on behalf of government for South Africa's electricity woes.

At a media briefing on Wednesday, the Minister appealled  to all citizens to help reduce demand by making electricity reductions in households and businesses.

She said the Eskom War room was working tirelessly to ensure that they provide adequate electricity supply to the public.

Brown is optimistic that the energy grid will be stabilised in the next few days after four straight days of load shedding.

She said South Africa was far from experiencing a total blackout but that South Africans will have to live with load shedding for another two years.

Meanwhile, Labour unrest at Medupi plant has caused strain at Eskom, which is expected to start generating 800 megawatts of electricity by July.

At least 1700 workers dismissed by contractors at the Eskom Medupi plant have not returned to work.
