Eastern Cape police are investigating cases of culpable homicide following two fatal accidents in which seven people died.
A Spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Unathi Binqose says it is suspected that alcohol and speeding were responsible.
He says the first accident claimed the lives of three people when the driver of a Toyota Avanza lost control on the R408 in Ngcobo.
Two men died on the scene whilst the third succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
Binqose says the second accident happened on the R58 between Elliot and Ugie at 8 pm on Wednesday when the driver of a Ford SUV with five occupants lost control.
A female passenger who survived the accident managed to crawl from the bushes towards the road where she was able to call for help.
Three men died in the accident and the two women are being treated at the Elliot Hospital.
On Monday, 10 people died in the Eastern Cape, eight of whom were pedestrians.
Provincial traffic says alcohol was also believed to have played a role in the carnage.
