The Hawks in the Eastern Cape have arrested another suspect in connection with two big busts last year in which police seized abalone with a total value of over R3 million.
Spokesperson, Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, said the suspect managed to evade arrest since 10 alleged accomplices were arrested in Algoa Park in Gqeberha in May.
The arrests related to the arrests of suspects in Cradock in May, 2021 for being in the illegal possession of 4 400 units of abalone and valued at R2 million.

The second big bust was made in Hofmeyr in October last year where several suspects were arrested and 65 bags of frozen abalone valued at R1.6 million was seized.
Mhlakuvana said the suspect managed to evade arrest until Saturday when members of the Gqeberha-based Economic Protected Resources Unit, arrested a 43-year-old man on Saturday in Cradock.
He said the suspect will appear in court on Monday.
