Great Brak River police are searching for five men who attacked a 35-year-old man in a house in Wolwedans on Saturday night.
Police Sergeant, Lauriane Botha, said the men, wearing balaclavas stormed into the house at around 9 pm and demanded a firearm from the homeowner.
She said they then stabbed the man with a sharp object, and paramedics pronounced him dead later.
Botha said a woman who was in the house was hit with a weapon over the head.
She said the suspects could not find a firearm and fled the scene.
The deceased's identity has not yet been released and Great Brak River police are investigating a case of murder.
