Truck drivers employed at car carrier companies are expected to go on a protected strike this week.
The drivers are members of the SA Transport and Allied Workers Union, the union Thor and the Transport and Allied Workers Union, Tawu.
The unions declared a dispute with the South African Motor Ferry Association over wages and other conditions of employment.
Satawu national spokesperson, Vincent Masoga, says the national strike will commence on Wednesday, but there is a possibility that industrial action in the Eastern Cape will be postponed.
Speaking to Algoa FM News, Masoga said the strike will likely affect the delivery of new cars to dealerships country-wide.
"The impact in the industry is likely to be the delivery of brand new vehicles that are coming from overseas and from the manufacturing plant in the Eastern Cape in the rarest cases" he said
