A group of five men are on the run following a home invasion in Kragga Kamma Road in Lorraine in Gqeberha on Friday.
Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says shortly after midnight, the five men, armed with knives and a crowbar, entered the house by breaking a window in front of the house.
He says the men wore balaclavas and ransacked the home while keeping the occupants under constraint.
Captain Beetge says the men stole a 9 mm firearm, jewellery, antique coins and cash, all to the value of R400 000.
A robbery case is under investigation.
Earlier this month, police issued a warning to residents, especially in the Western suburbs as home invasions have increased, especially during load shedding.
Areas most hit include Rowallan Park, Kunene Park, Kabega Park, Parsonsridge and Westering.
Police have urged residents to have a re-look at their current security measures, ensure their doors are locked and burglar bars are placed at open windows.
