Another Grahamstown school was on fire last night.
But Victoria Girls High School had a narrow escape when suspected arsonists set the administration block alight.
Victoria Girls High School is the third Grahamstown school this year to be hit by fire.
Flames were spotted in the bursars office shortly before 9pm last night.
Headmaster Warren Schmidt and staff rushed to the administration block as firemen doused the flames.
Schmidt pointed to two areas where arsonists are believed to have left inflammable material - at the door to the bursar's office, and the front door a metre away.
VG runs in a solid L-shaped block for more than 500m along Beaufort and Somerset Streets.
147 boarders were in the three school hostels.
The flames were licking the wooden floorboards of the school library above when the Makana Fire Department put it out.
That library contains 8000 books.
Police on the scene said a docket of arson was being opened.
One of the first to people to arrive and show support was PJ Olivier Hoerskool head, Piet Snyders, who told Schmidt, "Can I help!"
Snyders will reopen his school at 8am today - despite a devastating fire on Wednesday which caused damaged of over ten million rand.
