Police in Gqeberha are investigating a case of armed robbery after five suspects robbed a house in Lakeside on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the 59-year-old complainant was asleep in his house on a plot in Kragga Kamma Road when three unknown men entered his room at about 22:30.
She said they took him to the living room where he found his wife with two other suspects.
Naidu said they proceeded to tie him up with electrical cords before the suspects brought his 23-year-old son who was asleep, to the living room.
She said during the commotion, the complainant managed to run out and jumped over the fence to his neighbour's house which is on the same premises.
Naidu said they managed to alert the security company, but the suspects had already fled into nearby bushes with a cell phone, wallet, and an undisclosed amount of money.
Naidu said no one was injured during the incident.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, another family was tied up and robbed just 12 km away in Boundary Road, Morningside.
The 37-year-old homeowner and his mother were tied up before their house was ransacked.
Naidu, says it is too early to tell if the two house robberies are related as the investigations are still ongoing.
No arrests have been made.
