Two men appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates Court on Monday after a police drug bust at the weekend.
Police spokesman Lieutenant Marlene Pieterse said members of the flying squad confiscated Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R15 000 during a routine stop-and-search near the tollgate on Sunday.
"Members stopped a Ford Figo on the N2 highway near the tollgate and searched the vehicle. They found more than 23 grams of Mandrax tablets inside a box in the boot of the vehicle," Pieterse said.
The driver and the passenger, 34 and 45 years old, were arrested on the spot and appeared in the local magistrates court on drug possession charges the next day. The case was postponed to Tuesday for bail application.
This was the latest drug bust along the Garden Route and Central Karoo after a series of arrests over the past six months. In October police arrested a 21-year-old woman after they found Mandrax and cocaine with an estimated street value of more than R1-million in her possession. She was a passenger on a bus that was en-route from Durban to Cape Town and the drugs were hidden in her luggage.
In December a 32-year-old Congolese man was arrested in George after police caught him red-handed processing Tik.
They found R18 000 worth of Tik in his possession.
Over the festive season a 42-year-old woman was arrested during a routine roadblock in Beaufort-West. Police found Tik worth about R1-million concealed in her luggage.
