A fundraising shop for the Animal Welfare Society in Port Elizabeth has burnt down.
The Wagtails Fundraising Shoppe was situated on the corner of Albert Road and 6th Avenue in Walmer.
Manager, Deidre Terblanche, says the shop burnt down last night and at this stage, the cause of the fire is unknown.
Terblanche says everything in the shop was destroyed, including all the animal goods.
She says three cats did not make it, and died from smoke inhalation.
"There were 3 cats in there, they were resident cats. The did not burn, they died of smoke inhalation . We actually did retrieve them. They went peacefully" she said
Drop off points for the public, who want to make contributions for Animal Welfare, are in the process of being established and will be communicated to the public as soon as information becomes available.
