The ANC in the Eastern Cape has welcomed the appointment of Mthunywa Ngonzo as the acting superinentendent general of the Education Department in the province.
His appointment on Tuesday followed the sudden departure of advocate Modidima Mannya, who stepped down amid intense pressure from trade union Sadtu.
The ANC said it has faith and confidence in Gonzo's ability to work with the Ministry of Basic Education and strategic partners to realize the priorities of the province's turn-around plan for Education.
Gonzo's appointment has also been welcomed by Democratic Alliance spokesperson on education, Edmund van Vuuren, who said Gonzo had done well as head of education in the Cofinvaba district.
