ANC responds to Athol Trollip's State of the Metro address

ANC councillors in Nelson Mandela Bay say the DA-led coalition government has failed to deliver on promises made in its first year in power.

The ANC held a press briefing on Thursday in response to executive mayor Athol Trollip's State of the Metro Address earlier in the day.

In a detailed 30 page assessment report, named the DA Brings The Blues to Nelson Mandela Bay, the ANC stated that the DA had only achieved 28.4 percent of its 100 day promises.

Ndoni said the DA failed to improve the economy, clean up the townships, implement the Integrated Public Transport System and reduce unemployment.

"The mayor and the mayoral committee were not championing economic development. They have not been dealing with mega projects that we think can take this city forward," he said.

Ndoni said that economic development should have top priority and should not be left to be dealt with by the chief of staff and mayoral committee of economic development.

He said the past few months have been used to mend the cracks within the coalition government, not leaving enough time to deal with the problems of residents.

Councillor, Rory Riordan, concluded by adding that the DA is a party that only cares about the rich people.

"The suburbs remain sublime while the townships are loaded in filth, its like our communities are being punished," Riordan said.
