The ANC in the Eastern Cape says it is saddened by the news of the passing of former Transport and Public Works MEC, Thobile Mhlahlo.
The party says in a statement he passed away on Friday evening after a short illness.
It says Mhlahlo will always be remembered as a humble and dedicated activist, who commanded respect and possessed sincerity.
The ANC says he was a brave and a daring cadre of the party, loyal and uncompromising on matters of principle and organisational discipline.
"The African National Congress conveys its condolences to the entire Mhlahlo family and expresses its indestructible appreciation of the fact
that you surrendered your son to the nation", it said.
