ANC NMB councillor continues Twitter spat with Reserve Bank governor

ANC Nelson Mandela Bay councillor, Andile Lungisa, has described the legal action against him by the Reserve Bank governor, as "counter-revolutionary lawfare".

The controversial councillor took to Twitter on Tuesday to respond to a summons served on him by governor Lesetja Kganyago, who is bringing a defamation case against him.

Kganyago is seeking R500 000 in damages for derogatory comments that Lungisa made about him on Twitter earlier this year and for also impairing his dignity by using the K-word in the tweets.

But, Lungisa hit back, saying that they've "entered into the realm of the absurd".

He said the Reserve Bank governor was suing him "for correctly characterising him and his ilk as useful idiots of settler capital."

Lungisa has ten days to respond to the Reserve Bank governor's summons.

The ANC councillor is still waiting for the outcome of his appeal to the Constitutional Court against his conviction and effective two-year jail sentence for assaulting DA councillor, Rano Kayser, with a glass jug during the infamous Council brawl of 2016.
