The ANC in the Eastern Cape says it will be giving full support to newly appointed Nelson Mandela Bay executive mayor, Danny Jordaan.
This, as he faces mounting pressure from opposition parties to personally explain the payment of $10 million to Concacaf as it related to the 2010 World Cup.
Government has steadfastly denied that the payment to the Concacaf Legacy Programme was above board and did not amount to a bribe.
On Thursday, the DA in the Eastern Cape wrote an open letter to Jordaan calling on him to explain. They also want him to appear before a parliamentary committee to the same.
ANC provincial secretary, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, says the province will be guided by national government on the Fifa issue.
"The current President of SAFA is the Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, all the support is going to be guaranteed and given up until new evidence is shown, but as far as we are concerned, all what our government has done was based on a clear trajectory of getting support to other countries to benefit from the proceeds of that sports development. I think that there is nothing so far that suggests that there was ill intention in doing so." says Qoboshiyane
