ANC councillors ready to elect Danny Jordaan as Nelson Mandela Bay's next mayor

ANC Councillors in Nelson Mandela Bay say they're united and ready to elect Danny Jordaan as the next executive mayor.

This, after opposition parties announced that they will be boycotting a special council meeting on Thursday where Jordaan will be elected as the new mayor.

The meeting is set to take place at Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton later on Thursday morning.

After the council meeting Jordaan is due to fly back to Zurich to continue his SAFA and Fifa commitments amidst an international media storm following the arrest of several top Fifa officials as part of a massive anti-corruption probe.

At a media briefing in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday several opposition parties expressed their unhappiness with Jordaan's appointment as Metro Mayor.

But, ANC national spokesperson, Zizi Kodwa, told Algoa FM News that councilors are united and ready to elect the new councilors into office, including the new mayor.

He said a meeting was convened with 62 Councillors on Wednesday and he was not aware of any in-fighting.

"The ANC is the majority party it does not need opposition to make a decision for whatever reason. The ANC is united in electing a new leader" he said.
