Protesters in Uitenhage caused millions of rand in damage following a protest in which a local councillor's office was petrol-bombed.
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkhohli says Ward 45 councillor, Simphiwe Plaatjies, from the ANC, had his office set alight in Bantom Road in Kwanobuhle.
They also set fire to a truck with a tanker trailer causing damage of an estimated four million rand.
Nkohli says the driver was forced out of his truck and robbed of his personal belongings.
The violent protest started on the Rocklands road on Friday morning leaving motorists no choice but to turn around.
Nobody has been arrested yet and the situation is being monitored by SAPS, who issued a stern warning to the protesters.
Police are investigating a case of arson, malicious damage to property and robbery.
