An ANC councillor from Walmer in Port Elizabeth was shot dead on Tuesday nightHe was 42 year old Nceba Dywili, who had also served as chairman of the SMME's business grouping in Nelson Mandela Bay.
Police spokesperson, Constable Mncedi Mbombo, says Dywili was shot and killed at about 9 o'clock in the evening by two men in Zwide.
He had just dropped a woman off at her house when the suspects opened fire on him. Dywili was shot a number of times in the upper body and died on the scene while seated in his car. Constable Mbombo says the woman was also shot, but her life is not in danger.
She is recovering in hospital.
Its not yet clear if the murder of Dywili was politically motivated but police are investigating all possible motives.
