Two Port Elizabeth police officers from New Brighton SAPS have been robbed of their firearms, ammunition, and their state vehicle in Kwazekhele.
The incident happened shortly before 6 o'clock on Tuesday night at the Usave shopping centre in Stofile Street.
Police spokesperson, Constable Mncedi Mbombo, says the two constables, a 28 year old woman and a 29 year-old man, were on patrol when they stopped at the shopping complex.
They were approached by two gun wielding men who started shooting at them. No one was hit.
The suspects took the firearms of the police officers and 45 rounds of ammunition.The suspects fled the scene with the police van which was later found at Hlawula street in New Brighton.
