ANC chief whip arrested in Mossel Bay for drunk driving

The ANC's Chief Whip in the Mossel Bay council is expected to appear in court on Thursday, after he was arrested on Wednesday for alleged drunk driving.

Stanford Mbandezi was arrested after attending a committee meeting at the municipality, and according to police, he was caught after ignoring a stop street in Aloff Drive.

A breathalyzer test indicated a 0.37 reading.

Police say Mbandesi at first tried to resist arrest, and was taken to a local hospital where blood was drawn.

The ANC Chief Whip remains in custody until his court appearance.
