The ANC in the Eastern Cape has called on Health MEC Sicelo Gqobana to intervene in a case where an infant was reportedly refused medical attention in clinics for three months.
The Dispatch reported last week that an East London mother and her ailing child were turned away from different clinics because she had lost her ID book and the baby's clinic card.
ANC provincial secretary Oscar Mabuyane says the Health Department should have a computer system which links to the Department of Home Affairs with all the data about patients medical profiles, as cards easily get lost.
Mabuyane says although they respect the department's policies, they expect people's lives to be put first.
