Nelson Mandela Bay motorists who have outstanding traffic fines have from Wednesday until the 15th of August to apply for a 50 percent reduction in their fines.
Nelson Mandela Bay executive mayor, Benson Fihla, unveiled details of the amnesty programme at the Sidwell traffic court on Wednesday.
Motorists who have fines of R300 or more that had been issued up to the 31st of December last year, will qualify for a 50% reduction in their fines.
Speaking to Algoa FM News, mayor Fihla, highlighted the importance of traffic revenue.
"For the municipalities it becomes very critical that people who have committed these offences have to pay, because it is part of revenue for the metro, so if fines are not paid, the office will suffer" he said
Metro traffic chief, Hamilton Totoyi, says motorist can apply for amnesty with the state prosecutor at Sidwell traffic court and at Cuyler Street in Uitenhage.
