A 25-year-old man from Nelson Mandela Bay, who claims he was assaulted in a mob justice attack, has been arrested at the Provincial Hospital in Kariega on a charge of rape.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, says he was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Rosedale.
Beetge says the teenager was walking home from a tavern on Sunday night when she was accosted by four men, one of whom allegedly raped her.
He said the suspect is under police guard in hospital and will appear at the town's Magistrate Court as soon as he is discharged.
It has also not yet been confirmed whether the suspect is one of three men who were severely assaulted by community members in Rosedale on Monday.
The violent attack was recorded on video and is being widely circulated on social media.
No other arrests have yet been made.
