A 25-year-old man accused of the brutal murder of a final year Fort Hare student in East London made his first appearance in court on Monday.
Alutha Pasile is accused of killing 23-year old Nosicelo Mtebeni and dismembering her body.
The victim's torso was found stuffed in a suitcase on Thursday morning in Quigney on the corners of Fleet Street and Fitzpatrick Road.
Pasile was arrested at his home nearby where black bags with more body parts were discovered.
The gruesome discovery was made when a police patrol was alerted by a motorist.
Alutha Pasile abandoned his bid for bail and the matter was postponed to the 28th of September for further investigation.
Mtebeni's gruesome murder sent shockwaves through the institution.
A vigil will be held for Mtebeni on Wednesday.
The head of Fort Hare's Psychology Department, Dr Rianna Oelofsen, strongly condemned the murder, especially since its Women's Month.
She called on all students and staff of the University of Fort Hare to shut on down on Wednesday to honour Mtebeni.
