A teenager from Conville in George is in police custody following the death of a 12-year-old boy.
Police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says the 14-year-old boy, also from Conville, was arrested shortly after the victim, Austin Kiewiets, succumbed to a stab wound to the chest on Sunday.
He says preliminary investigations reveal that Kiewiets and his friends were walking home when the suspect accosted him in Tinktinkie Street and stabbed him.
Captain Pojie says the teenager fled the scene on foot, but hours later his parents handed him over to police.
The child was assessed by a social worker on Sunday and will make his first appearance in the George Magistrates Court on Monday.
The motive for the killing is still being investigated.
