Alleged killer burns to death as mob sets house on fire

Mossel Bay police have opened two murder dockets following the death of two people who were involved in an argument.

Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Poje says it is alleged that the 25-year-old Simphamandla Koni stabbed the 29-year-old Silindile Mkhaza to death in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He says the two had a fight when Koni allegedly stabbed Mkhaza several times with a knife in his back.

Captain Pojie says community members who witnessed were outraged and set Koni's house on fire, with him trapped inside.

Koni’s body was found inside his house in Mzola Street after the Mossel Bay Fire Brigade extinguished the flames.

Pojie says they do not believe that any alcohol was used before the incident and says it is at this stage impossible to say what the motive for the killings was.
