A 30-year-old house robbery suspect was shot and killed by police in Kwanobuhle in Kariega, formerly Uitenhage.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, says the incident happened on Thursday night in Dwangu Street when a home-owner was robbed of cash, a TV set and their vehicle.
He says K9 unit members responded and located the stolen Mazda vehicle where three men were standing close to the car.
Beetge says one of the men drew a firearm and opened fire on the police vehicle.
He says a shootout ensued with members narrowly escaping injury, while two of the men managed to escape.
The deceased was found in possession of a 9mm pistol and his identity will be revealed once his next of kin is notified of his death.
All the stolen goods were recovered.
