Police in Port Elizabeth have arrested a 26-year-old suspects just hours after he allegedly shot and killed a man in Bloemendal.

Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the victim was identified as the 29-year-old Juandre Mentoor.

She says it is alleged that Mentoor and his 23-year-old friend were walking in Willam Slammert Drive shortly before 5 am on Monday morning.

Naidu says the suspect ran towards them and started firing shots.

The men started running but Mentoor collapsed a short distance from the scene and died.

He sustained multiple gunshots wounds to his upper body.

Naidu says police found the suspect fast asleep at a house in the same street.

The murder is gang-related.
