EAST LONDON, December 11 (ANA) – A 36-year-old man has been arrested in Beacon Bay in East London for allegedly stealing about R900,000 in cash and goods from an East London businesswoman, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said on Sunday.
The man allegedly acted as the 58-year-old woman’s traditional healer and apparently managed to con her out of this amount by promising to turnaround her financial misfortunes. He allegedly stole the money between August 2015 and February 2016, Captain Anelisa Feni said.
“Our ears are on the ground even during this festive season. We will not tolerate any scammers. If it was up to me all these alleged scammers would only receive bail in January,” Eastern Cape Hawks head Maj-Gen Nyameko Nogwanya said.
