A 36-year-old woman who police said was of the nine most wanted suspects believed to be involved in the robbery of million rands worth of jewellery from a store in East London has appeared in court.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana, said that she appeared in court in East London on Wednesday on charges of armed robbery.
He said the breakthrough by Cambridge crime prevention unit members came after a well-known store was robbed on 16 May.
A branch of Brown’s Jewellery store in Hemmingways Mall was robbed by a woman and man posing as customers but reportedly whipped out guns and robbed the store of millions if rands in jewellery.
“The suspect whose identity cannot be revealed until she has pleaded in court, remains in custody until the next court appearance,” Brigaider Kinana said.
“The recovery of the stolen Jewellery has not been made at this stage”.
The case has since been remanded to Thursday the 23 May.
Kinana said that police were appealing to any person who may have knowledge of the other suspects’ s whereabouts to immediately inform the nearest police station or call the crime stop number 08 600 10 111.
