Two men accused of planning to hijack a delivery truck last week are expected to appear in court over the next two days.
Hawks Eastern Cape spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said 34-year-old Mzumkhulu Kana and his alleged accomplice, 31-year-old Siyabonga Heshu, used a Toyota Quantum minibus and a Ford Ranger bakkie last week to allegedly hijack a delivery truck travelling from Gqeberha to East London.
She said police received a tip-off about their plan and which vehicles they were using when they spotted the suspects in Peddie.
Captain Mgolodela said officers gave chase and a shootout ensued but no one was injured. She said a third suspect on the back of the bakkie fell off during the chase and died on the scene.
Heshu, who was driving the Ford Ranger, was arrested and will appear in the Peddie Magistrates court on Thursday for a formal bail application.
Kana, who drove the mini-bus, was tracked down and arrested three days later in Gqeberha.
He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
Mgolodela said they would be charged with murder, attempted murder and armed robbery.
