An Eastern Cape man who is wanted for questioning in connection with the rape of a minor in 2019 is still on the run.
The 41-year-old Mark Paul allegedly raped a minor in Alexandria in December of 2019.
Less than 24 hours after his photograph went viral on social media, Paul, himself, called the investigating officer promising to meet with police in Gqeberha on Monday.
Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says he never showed up and is still on the run.
Paul worked on a farm in Alexandria and fled town after the rape charge was laid.
Govender says several attempts to contact him through his family and friends were unsuccessful and eventually a warrant of arrest was issued by the Alexandria Magistrates Court.
Soon after he fled town police received reports of Paul being spotted in Kariega (Uitenhage) and Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).
Captain Govender says Paul has a very distinctive tattoo on his upper left arm.
Any person who may know of his whereabouts is asked to contact the Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Yapi on 071 475 2361.
Paul's photographs that were shared on the Algoa FM News Facebook page reached nearly 97 000 people.
