Two men who were arrested for the murder of the Speaker of the Raymond Mhlaba Municipality in the Eastern Cape, are due back in court again on Monday.
Twenty-nine-year-old Mziyanda Ketani and Sindiso Wece are accused in the assassination of 43-year-old Thozama Njobe, who was gunned down in Fort Beaufort last month.
The motive for her murder is not known but police said more arrests are expected.
Meanwhile, Raymond Mhlaba Municipality mayor, Bandile Ketelo, has lashed out media reports stating that at least 16 councillors, who were reportedly friends of the slain Speaker, are living in fear of their lives.
He says he is attending to reports of threats against some of his councillors and will address the issue later.
The Daily Dispatch reported this weekend that there was another attempt on the life of a counsellor who's property and car was doused in petrol and set alight. The publication reports that alert family members prevented the blaze from spreading to the house.
Eastern Cape police have confirmed that they are investigating the latest threats against the other councillors.
