The Eastern Cape will come under the government spotlight on the opening day of the new school year on Wednesday.
Deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe will be one of several high profile government officials to visit the province.
He will be in Lusikisiki where he will interact with learners and school management in that area.
He will be accompanied by the deputy education minister, Enver Surty and Eastern Cape premier, Noxolo Kiviet.
Eastern Cape Education MEC, Mandla Makupula, will in turn visit the Dlulisa senior secondary school in Butterworth which recorded a dismal 4.9% matric pass rate in 2012.
