A Group of high school children from Brandwag in Uitenhage will become the first students at the Algoa FM Broadcasting School, which was launched at the station's offices at the Boardwalk in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday morning.
The 18 pupils, who have started their own internet radio station, each won a bursary for a compact course at the Broadcasting school which will be managed by AlgoaFM's Tove Kane.
The broadcasting school, which will be the first of its kind in the Eastern Cape, is not just aimed at aspirant radio or TV broadcasters, but is also ideal for anyone who wants to enhance their vocal ability.
A teacher and founder of the radio station at Brandwag High School , Karen Basson accepted the bursary on behalf of the students who are busy writing exams.
"I think they are going to be so excited. I think this is the most wonderful experience that they will ever have in their lives. It is an internet station so they have to plan and pre-record topics, according to the subjects they do at school. It is basically homework on air. Our motto is "Education for Africa" and they would like to help those who are underprivileged and who need help with their homework. There us a technical side to it as well" she said.
