A bus belonging to the Algoa Bus Company was torched, and another one damaged, during a protest in Standford Road, Port Elizabeth on Monday morning.
The company confirmed that the vehicle was set alight, adding that the protest action had nothing to do with the bus company.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Alwin Labans says it is believed that residents are unhappy over relocation plans by the Department of Human Settlements.
He says the protest started at around 5am with residents burning tyres and other objects in the roads.
Labans says police made use of teargas to disperse the crowds. There have been no arrests but police are monitoring the situation.
He says Booysens Park drive remains closed to traffic, but confirmed that Standford Road is open.
Labans says motorists should however, proceed with caution, as there is still a lot of debris in the road.
