62 year old Alexandria farmer Riaan Scheepers has died in hospital, nearly a month after being brutally attacked in his farmhouse.
Scheepers was severely assaulted in his home on the morning of 25 November and was rushed to hospital with several skull fractures.
One of his farm workers was also injured in the attack.
Scheepers was placed in an induced coma as doctors looked to reduce swelling on the brain.
He passed away at around 5pm on Tuesday.
A 24-year-old suspect Siphamandle Petse appeared in the Alexandria Magistrate's court earlier this month after being arrested in connection with the attack on Scheepers and his farmworker.
Several items of clothing, as well as Scheepers' cell phone, were recovered during Petse's arrest.
At the time, he faced charges which included attempted murder, which will now likely be changed to a charge of murder.
