A 26-year-old man will spend the weekend behind bars following his arrest for a hijacking in Despatch on Thursday night.
Spokesperson Sergeant Majola Nkohli says two alert police officers rescued the victim before arresting one of the two suspects.
It is alleged that the 56-year-old victim was in his parked Volkswagen Polo near Church Street around 7 pm when two men approached him on the driver side.
Nkohli says one man had a firearm and ordered the driver to move to the backseat.
The hijackers then drove towards Botha street where the officers noticed the vehicle driving recklessly. They switched on their sirens and gave chase.
They managed to arrest one of the suspects.
Nkholi says his accomplice managed to flee but his arrest is imminent.
