AFU to sell luxury home of former advisor to EC Premier

The Port Elizabeth High Court has granted the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority a preservation order against the R3 m house belonging to the former advisor for the Eastern Cape Premier, Zandisile Qupe.

The National Prosecuting Authority says the property, situated in Gqeberha, will be sold and the amount will be transferred to National Treasury.

NPA spokesperson, Anelisa Ngcakani, says the property was allegedly purchased with proceeds of crime namely corruption, fraud and money laundering.

Ngcakani says Qupe together with his 13 co-accused are currently facing charges of corruption, fraud and money laundering to the tune of R56.4 million.

These charges were allegedly committed when he was ANC's Nelson Mandela Bay Regional Secretary.

One of the accused's charges relates to two Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality projects.

Qube was arrested last year when he was a special advisor to Premier, Oscar Mabuyane.

All the accused are expected to appear before the Port Elizabeth Specialised Crimes' Court in January next year.
