Two gangsters are in police custody following a shootout between rival gangs and police in the Northern Areas of Gqeberha.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the drama unfolded on Tuesday morning just before 11 when three gang members in a blue City Golf in Schauderville where they started firing shots at four occupants from another gang seated in a white Suzuki.
She says the Suzuki sped off and was chased by the Golf. The chase resulted in a head-on collision in Roos Street.
Colonel Naidu says the gangsters jumped out of their vehicles, exchanging fire and running in different directions.
She says the incident took place near the offices of the Anti-Gang unit at the 10111 Centre and members immediately reacted.
Two suspects ran towards the police firing shots and members retaliated.
Two men aged 24 and 33 sustained a gunshot wound in the shoulder and abdomen respectively.
A .38 revolver was later found inside the Golf.
The two suspects will face two charges of attempted murder for the initial shooting incident as well as shooting at police.
Firearm charges will also be added.
They will appear in court soon.
