The Spar retail group in Port Elizabeth says the selling of Afcon tickets through its outlets is proving a major headache for its franchise holders.
Spar Eastern Cape Marketing Manager Martin Webber spoke to the DMB on AlgoaFM on Friday and said the group had faced a number of challenges with the Afcon ticketing system.
"For a good couple of hours on Saturday customers and people wanting to go buy tickets in our stores were unable to get because the system was showing us that the tickets were sold out, only to see later on on Saturday evening that there were more tickets electronicaly made availalbe and put into the system and the machinery used to issue these tickets. That was a concern for us and obviously there were people coming into the store that were unhappy and not able to get" Webber said.
He said there were also technical issues with one of the Afcon ticket printers on Thursday.
"Technicians were at one of our stores for a couple of hours and again we were unable to issue these tickets, but it was up and running again last night"
Webber believes the issues have now been resolved and is hopeful that sales will now continue smoothly for the rest of the tournament.
