Famous South African Actor and a local leader of the EFF Fana Mokoena was arrested in Mthatha yesterday.
Mokoena was engaged in a protest to stop the King Dalinyebo Municipality from demolishing people’s homes.
Police Spokesperson Warrant Officer Dineo Koena confirmed the arrest and said another 14 men and 5 woman were arrested.
The Municipality was acting on a court order and demolished homes of people who were illegaly occupying land.
Koena says the EFF members who were arrested will appear in court on Monday on charges of intimidation and defeating the ends of justice.
Spokesperson for the EFF Mbuyiseni Ndlozi says no legislation may permit arbitrary evictions and homes may not be demolished without alternative acommodation offered.
They demanded the immediate release of Mokoena

Meanwhile the National Chairperson for the EFF and well known advocate Dali Mpofu took to Twitter to vent his anger at the arrest.
He said after a meeting with EFF lawyers the Prosecutor declined to prosecute those arrested.
Mpofu stated that after 15 hours behind bars the EFF members should be released.
