A former employee from the Department of Home Affairs has been found guilty of fraud and corruption in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court.
Forty-five year old Noninzi Dyonase from Algoa Park was employed as a control immigration officer and was found guilty of defrauding the department of more than R145 000.
According to the state, Dyonase submitted false travel and subsistence claims during January and December 2012 and paid gratification to a senior accounting clerk, Selby Skosana to the amount of R45 000.
Skosana who was based at the Pretoria head office was responsible for claims emanating from Limpopo, Free State and Northern Cape, but not the Eastern Cape.
Skosana has since pleaded guilty for receiving money in gratification and is serving a six year sentence.
Magistrate Louis Claasen postponed the case until the 23rd of July for sentencing.
