ACDP calls for support to remove mayor Bobani

The African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) has called on Nelson Mandela Bay's coalition government partners to support it's second attempt to remove executive mayor, Mongameli Bobani.

The party's lone regional councillor, Lance Grootboom, told Algoa FM News that he had submitted yet another motion of no confidence against Bobani.

Grootboom's first attempt to remove the mayor fell flat at a council meeting earlier this month after coalition partners said the allegations against the mayor were only based on a local newspaper article.

This second motion of exigency follows an article in the PE Herald which revealed that Bobani was facing new fraud allegations - including contraventions of the Municipal Systems Act.

Grootboom said the serious allegations against the executive mayor were extremely detrimental to investor confidence and the credibility of the municipal administration.

"If our First Citizen is arrested, it will re-establish our City’s reputation as corrupt. This will have a very negative impact on our City, especially the poor if Councillor Bobani continues to hold the position of Executive Mayor," he said.

Grootboom urged the ANC, EFF, AIC, and UF to put the interests of residents before the interests of their parties

"They must not be selfish at this time, they must not ignore the interests of the poor who are seeking employment," he said.

Grootboom said he would table the motion at the next scheduled council meeting set to take place on the sixth of December.
