Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 49-year-old woman for allegedly making a false claim about a baby being abducted by three men in a black BMW on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, said the child's real biological mother was identified and questioned.
He said there was an arrangement between the child's 22-year-old mother and the older woman regarding the care of the child.
Beetge said in a statement that this arrangement went sour leading to the older woman a false case of abduction.
"The 49-year-old suspect was arrested and will be appearing before the Motherwell Magistrates Court on Thursday on a charge of perjury," he said.
Beetge said the Department of Social Work Services would also be asked to intervene and deal with this matter in the interest of the child.
