A case of Child Abandonment has been opened for investigation by the Grahamstown SAPS.
Captain Mali Govender says that at approximately 2 pm on Thursday, a doctor from the local hospital was driving his car in Milner street when he noticed a group of women with a small baby.
He stopped and on enquiry was informed that the mother of the baby is unknown and that the infant had been found on the side of the street.
The baby boy appears to be ok and is being kept at Settler's hospital.
No arrests have yet been made - its the second child abandonment case in the province this week after an hours-old baby girl was found in a stormwater drain in Lorraine in Port Elizabeth.
She's being cared for at Dora Nginza hospital.
