Two suspected abalone poachers were arrested in the Sardinia Bay area in Nelson Mandela Bay, shortly after midnight on Thursday.
Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the flying squad and a private anti-poaching unit were busy with a joint operation when they noticed suspicious activities near the coast.
She says upon further investigation members found two suspects busy loading abalone.
Police did a follow-up search of the area and seized diving equipment and 151 units of abalone worth R100 000.
The two suspects aged 23 and 32 are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court soon on a charge of Contravening the Marine Living Resources Act of 1998.
