The K9 unit in Gqeberha has arrested a 38-year-old man and confiscated abalone with a street value of around R3,7 million.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members acted on information received and executed a search warrant at a house in Schauder Avenue in Holland Park at 2.30 on Thursday afternoon.
Police seized 140 plastic bags containing 1400 kg of frozen de-shelled abalone.
They also recovered 13 plastic bags containing 233.88kg of dried abalone, five deep freezers, a scale and a cellphone.
The abalone was handed over to the Department of Sea Fisheries for storage.
Colonel Naidu says the suspect was detained for contravening the Marine Living Resource Act and will appear in court soon for the illegal possession of abalone.
