Two men are in police custody following a high-speed chase along the N10 that led to the discovery of abalone worth over R3 million.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the suspects were driving from Gqeberha towards Cookhouse late on Monday night when police received intel about a suspicious-looking vehicle on the road.
She says when police spotted a Nissan Navara bakkie a high-speed chase ensued.
Members blocked off the vehicle between Nxuba (Cradock) and Cookhouse where the bakkie was searched.
Colonel Naidu says 17 bags containing 6 699 units were found hidden underneath a blanket.
The suspects, aged 30 and 40 will be charged in terms of the Marine Living Resource Act and possession and transportation of abalone.
They are expected in court soon.
Last month police made another big abalone bust along the same stretch of road.
